Carnival Cancels 11 Fall Sailings on Firenze, Impacting West Coast Travelers

Travelers planning a quick autumn escape aboard the Carnival Firenze from California will need to adjust their itineraries, as Carnival Cruise Line has announced the cancellation of 11 voyages scheduled for this fall.

Impacted Cruises and Itineraries

The affected sailings on the Italian-themed vessel were set to depart from Long Beach, California, between October 12 and November 16, 2026. These trips primarily consisted of short three- to four-night round-trip excursions to Baja California, Mexico, with port calls in Ensenada and, on some routes, Catalina Island, California. West Coast cruisers who had anticipated these short getaways will now need to seek alternative vacation arrangements.

A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the cancellations to USA Today, explaining that modifications are sometimes made to "optimize voyages to meet guest demand or due to changing port availability." Further clarification provided to Fox News Digital indicated that the cancellations stem from the introduction of new itineraries for the Firenze out of Long Beach, though specific details about these new routes were not disclosed.

Options for Displaced Passengers

Carnival has already reached out to all passengers whose trips were impacted by these changes, providing them with two distinct options to address their disrupted travel plans:

Full Refund or Rebooking

  • Travelers can opt for a complete refund of their cruise fare, which will also include any pre-purchased add-ons such as beverage packages or shore excursions.
  • Alternatively, passengers may choose to rebook another Carnival cruise. In such cases, Carnival will protect their original fare for a similar sailing and accommodation type, and will also provide an onboard credit.

While some affected cruisers expressed disappointment, particularly those who had planned special occasions like a Halloween cruise, many are reportedly exploring rebooking options for different dates or itineraries. Sailings on the Carnival Firenze from Long Beach outside the cancelled October-November window remain available for booking.

The Future of Carnival Firenze

The Carnival Firenze, which joined the Carnival fleet in 2024 after transferring from Costa Cruises, is designed to offer a "Fun Italian Style" experience, blending Carnival’s signature lively atmosphere with Italian-inspired aesthetics, culinary offerings, and ambiance. The vessel can accommodate over 4,100 guests at double occupancy and shares its concept with sister ship, the Carnival Venezia.

Following its current deployments, the Firenze is slated to spend the beginning of 2027 navigating South American waters. After this, it will reposition to Miami for a season of Caribbean and Bahamas cruises, before eventually relocating to New York City for summer 2027 departures to destinations in the Caribbean and Canada. While cruise cancellations are not an everyday occurrence, lines do adjust schedules periodically for various reasons, including operational optimizations, maintenance, or charter agreements, as seen with other recent Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Line changes.
