Carnival Cancels 11 West Coast Cruises This Fall: What Travelers Need to Know About the Firenze Disruptions

Carnival Cruise Line has announced the cancellation of multiple scheduled voyages aboard its Italian-themed vessel, the Carnival Firenze, impacting West Coast travelers’ fall vacation plans. A total of 11 sailings departing from Long Beach, California, will no longer proceed as planned, prompting the cruise operator to reach out to affected guests with alternative options.

Disrupted Itineraries and Dates

The affected trips, primarily short three-to-four-night round-trip excursions, were slated to sail to Baja California, Mexico, including calls at Ensenada, and for some itineraries, Catalina Island, California. These cancellations span from October 12 through November 16. Passengers who had booked these specific dates will need to adjust their travel arrangements as the cruise line implements itinerary changes for the Carnival Firenze.

The Carnival Firenze, which joined Carnival’s fleet from Costa Cruises in 2024, is designed to accommodate over 4,100 guests, offering a unique “Fun Italian Style” experience. While operations for sailings outside of the affected October-November window from Long Beach remain unchanged, the sudden cancellations have led to considerable discussion among the cruising community.

Options for Affected Passengers and Carnival’s Stance

Carnival Cruise Line has already begun contacting guests impacted by these cancellations, presenting them with two primary choices. Travelers can opt for a full refund, which includes the fare and any pre-purchased add-ons such as drink packages or shore excursions. Alternatively, they can rebook another Carnival cruise, with the cruise line committing to protect the original fare on a similar sailing and accommodation type, plus an additional onboard credit.

In a statement regarding the changes, a Carnival spokesperson indicated that modifications are occasionally made to “optimize voyages to meet guest demand or due to changing port availability.” Further clarification provided to Fox News Digital attributed the cancellations to new itineraries planned for the Firenze from Long Beach, though specific details about these new routes have not yet been disclosed. This differs slightly from initial passenger speculation on forums like Cruise Critic and Reddit, which had suggested a possible dry dock or maintenance period for the vessel.

The Firenze’s Upcoming Schedule

Beyond these fall disruptions, the Carnival Firenze has a dynamic schedule ahead. Following its time in South America at the beginning of 2027, the ship is slated to operate Caribbean and Bahamas cruises from Miami. It will then reposition to New York City for the summer of 2027, offering departures to various Caribbean and Canadian destinations, showcasing its versatility across different markets.
