Carnival Cruise Line Cancels 11 Fall Sailings from Long Beach, Affecting Baja Itineraries

Travelers in California planning autumn getaways aboard the Carnival Firenze are now tasked with rearranging their vacation plans. Carnival Cruise Line has announced the cancellation of eleven voyages scheduled to depart from Long Beach this fall, impacting numerous West Coast cruisers.

The affected sailings, predominantly short three-to-four-night round trips to Baja California, Mexico, were slated between October 12 and November 16, 2026. These popular itineraries typically included stops in Ensenada, Mexico, with some also featuring Catalina Island, California.

Impact on Autumn Travel Plans

A spokesperson for Carnival confirmed the adjustments to USA Today, stating that itinerary modifications are sometimes made to ‘optimize voyages to meet guest demand or due to changing port availability.’ This has left many passengers, including one on Cruise Critic who expressed disappointment about a canceled Halloween cruise, to explore alternative arrangements, though some are considering rebooking for Thanksgiving sailings.

Carnival has already contacted all impacted travelers, offering them two main choices. Guests can opt for a full refund, which includes any prepaid additions like drink packages and shore excursions. Alternatively, they can rebook another Carnival cruise, where their original fare will be protected for a similar itinerary and cabin category, along with an onboard credit.

Understanding the Changes and Future Itineraries

While the cruise line initially cited demand and port availability, speculation among the cruising community on forums like Cruise Critic and Reddit suggested a potential dry dock period. However, Carnival later clarified to Fox News Digital that the cancellations are due to new itineraries planned for the Firenze departing from Long Beach, though specific details about these new routes were not immediately shared.

It’s not uncommon for cruise lines to adjust or cancel sailings for various operational reasons, including scheduling shifts or essential maintenance. For instance, Carnival recently canceled an October 2027 sailing of the Carnival Splendor from Sydney, Australia, due to the ship being privately chartered. The Carnival Firenze, which joined the fleet in 2024 from Costa Cruises, offers a “Fun Italian Style” experience for its over 4,100 guests. The vessel is scheduled to operate in South America in early 2027 before moving to Miami for Caribbean and Bahamas cruises, eventually relocating to New York City for summer 2027 departures to the Caribbean and Canada.
